Sir David Hempleman-Adams
Many congratulations to Sir David Hempleman-Adams, who received a Knighthood in the New Year’s Honours List. The Royal Aero Club Trust is honoured that he has served as a Trustee of the Trust for many years. Sir David is perhaps best known for his breath-taking world-record achievements, which include becoming the first person to cross the Atlantic Ocean in an air balloon with an open wicker basket in 2003. He is also the first person in history to reach the Geographic and Magnetic North and South Poles, as well as climb the highest peaks in all seven continents. However, it is for his youth work - for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and as a Trustee of the Royal Aero Club Trust - that we wish to acknowledge his contribution here. Sir David will be made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victoria Order (KCVO) at a ceremony later this year.
