Molly Rose, Spitfire Pilot (1920-2016)
Molly Daphne Rose (née Marshall), who died today aged 95, was a pilot in the wartime Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) and became one of the “Spitfire Women” who delivered ‘planes from aircraft factories to RAF units. Already a qualified pilot, she joined the ATA in September 1942, delivering 486 aircraft of 38 different types. In 2008, the service of these “Forgotten Pilots” was finally formally recognised when Molly and other survivors were presented with the ATA Veteran’s Badge by the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street.
